Viva La Frida: Jewellery That Tells Her Story
Frida Kahlo was born on 6th July 1907 — and passed away on 13th July 1954 — but her legacy? That lives on forever.
At Licensed To Charm, we’re honouring this extraordinary woman with a collection inspired not only by her art and iconography, but by her resilience, duality, and the fierce beauty she brought into the world.
Welcome to Viva La Frida – a celebration of life, love, pain, and power, told through jewellery.
A Heart That Speaks
At the centre of our newest launch are the Viva La Vida Heart Rings — available in sterling silver and 18ct gold vermeil. Inspired by sacred hearts, these designs echo motifs found throughout Frida’s work, like in her poignant painting The Two Fridas, where one Frida’s heart is broken, exposed, and still beating.
The scalloped edge of each ring mirrors the shape of vintage milagros — religious folk charms used for healing — and frames an etched portrait of Frida herself, her face calm, yet undeniably powerful.
Just like her paintings, these rings tell a story:
-
Of pain, but also profound self-love.
-
Of solitude, but also solidarity.
-
Of heartbreak, but also wholeness.
They’re jewellery you don’t just wear — you feel.
The Beauty of Death: Sugar Skull Symbols
Also launching this July are our Sugar Skull Rings — a bold nod to Mexican Día de los Muertos symbolism. Frida often explored death as a companion in her art — not as something to fear, but as a natural extension of life. Our skull designs are layered with botanical detail, inspired by the floral crowns she wore and the joyful mourning that defines Mexican traditions.
Together with our bestselling sugar skull rose earrings and floral necklaces, these new arrivals create a collection that feels both deeply personal and defiantly celebratory.
A Garden of Symbolism
Frida’s connection to nature was deeply personal. Her garden at La Casa Azul was not only a sanctuary but a source of inspiration. Many of her self-portraits feature flora as metaphors for femininity, fertility, and rebirth.
Our expanded Frida collection includes marigold-inspired earrings, symbolic charms, and handcrafted necklaces — each rooted in this natural language. These wearable elements echo her own adornments, where jewellery became part of her storytelling — often political, always personal.
Frida’s Story, Worn Your Way
